Monologues

Corbin's babblings are turning into monologues. It seems like he's been talking non-stop since Saturday morning. Check out how he can manipulate his tongue!

Banana Face

Corbin had his 4 month appointment today, and he did great! He is 50th percentile for height and weight, and his big ole noggin is in the 75th percentile. He got his vaccinations, and mommy cried. But he was fine- in fact, he was laughing at the nurse before she left the room.

We got the official go-ahead for solids. We've already been doing bananas. I wasn't going to start until 6 mos, but Corbin has already taken such an interest in solids & he meets all of the criteria for starting solids. The pediatrician prefers that we use organic fruits and vegetables, which I had already had surmised anyway. We had tried rice cereal, but the girls on my message board alerted me that most rice cereals are overly processed & contain very little nutrition. In fact, most of the iron is not absorbed that they contain. I personally already have rice cereal in the house, so I will probably use it up. Here is a little information about other "first foods" for babies: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/cereal.htm Many other cultures in the world use bananas exclusively as a first food. My pediatrician also "poo poo-ed" the common belief that you should introduce veggies before fruits to lessen the liklihood of a sweet-tooth. And Dr. William Sears recommends that babies who are used to the sweet taste of breastmilk to start with bananas.

Next week we will probably start sweet potatoes. I just went to the grocery store & bought ice cube trays and some first fruits and veggies. As soon as I get off the computer, I plan to spend a couple of hours making baby food in the food processor & putting it in the ice cube trays for the freezer.

Blog Makeover

I just updated the layout. Hope the changes don't make you dizzy!

I also added a new sidebar item- "Best Baby Stuff Ever." This isn't a hint of gifts we want! In fact, we have them! These are just websites I wanted to give props to. In case anyone is looking for good ideas for baby shower gifts (or if you are expecting a little one of your own!), check out the links off to the left. IMO, these items are fantastic!

Janie & Jack Easter Outfit

Here is Corbin with his Easter Basket full of baby food! I love this little outfit of his. Doesn't he look so grown up? His new thing is that he refuses to smile at a camera. I think he gets stunned by the flash. Basically, if you don't catch a smile the first shot, you don't get one!

Yesterday, I had the funniest little experience with Corbin. We had just returned home from Easter celebrations, and I was trying to feed him. He was obviously very cranky and hungry, but wouldn't take the bottle. I gave him little breaks in between attempts & then would retry. During one of the breaks, I stood him on my lap since I know he loves to stand. He determinedly grabbed both of my cheeks at the same time and pulled him face into mine & chomped down on my long, pointy nose & started to suck viciously. It was so on-purpose, it was hilarious. We grabbed the video camera, but of course, by the time we turned it on, he had stopped. I couldn't believe it.

That's when we tried bananas on him & he loved them. I knew he was hungry! He was so excitedly eating up every spoonful! They were organic bananas mixed with breastmilk. Then we "washed" the cup by adding more breastmilk to it, and he ate a couple more ounces of milk by spoon. He definitely prefers it!

St Patty's Day

Last night we celebrated St. Patty's day family style & hung out with a few friends. Here are Miss Emma & Mr. Corbin in their green. They are perplexedly looking at crazy, jumping squealing parents who are all attempting to make them smile and/or look at the camera.

Look at me! I'm a supported stander!

Past Weekend

Last weekend, we went out of town to see family. We celebrated Jon's birthday at his grandma's house. We were so proud of our little man. He was so well behaved. He sat up at the table like a big boy when he woke up from his nap during dinner. Grandma KK fed him a taste of applesauce & it made him pucker. He is getting very interested in food and watching people eat.

Before most of the guests arrived, grandma posed him in this dolly stroller.

"Hey, get outta my way, lady!"

Later that night, daddy tried on the Moby for the first time. He agreed that it is very comfortable.

At the end of the night, Corbin and daddy cuddled on the couch. Corbin was especially tired, since he had been so stimulated all weekend.

Cuteness Overload

Photobucket

We had two cute babies in the house on Saturday night! We had a few friends over for dinner on Saturday night, which was a really nice "adult break" for us. Corbin's first girlfriend, Emma, was born to our friends in December (which was supposed to be Corbin's birth month. Well, technically, Emma's was supposed to be January, but these kids didn't write down the dates in their appointment books.)

Above are Amy & Emma joining us on the couch. Both babies were so quiet & well behaved that night. They both look like they are saying, "Hey, what the heck is going on here? I thought I was the baby!"
